Food citizenship can be described as the practice of engaging in food‐related behaviors that “support, rather than threaten, the development of a democratic, socially and economically just, and environmentally sustainable food system” (Wilkins 2005: 271). Food citizenship can also be associated with particular rights and involves moving beyond food shopping to engage with the multi‐dimensional aspects of the food system.
